Permanent Hair Removal

Permanent Hair Removal

Permanent hair removal is sought by a great number of people who are suffering from unwanted hair whether it is on the face, body or legs.

There are two primary methods for permanent hair removal generally available in the market place today:

Permanent Hair Removal: Electrolysis:

Electrolysis hair removal works by inserting a needle into the hair follicle and blasting away with an electric current. There are three types of electrolysis.

Thermoloysis/Diathermy

This epilation procedure produces warmth, utilizing a high frequency, short wave diathermy current to cauterise the hair at the follicle. The current is actually channeled through an incredibly fine needle to the desired spot; the heat is applied for 1-3 seconds.

Galvanic

This is the classic approach to epilation, employing a galvanic current, which causes the sodium along with water within the hair follicle surrounding the probe to be chemically altered, making lye. Lye is a acidic substance that is the actual destructive element in the galvanic process. Lye dissolves the dermal papilla which makes hair growth.

Galvanic is perceived as being more effective as compared to diathermy, even though the method of hair removal will take a bit longer than diathermy or blend. Lye can access all parts of the hair follicle, as it’s a liquid, therefore it ensures that distorted along with curved follicles can be successfully taken care of.

Blend

The blend epilation technique, is actually exactly what it’s name is, it is the combination of both the diathermy and galvanic currents. This particular procedure is founded on the theory that lye can be much more acidic whenever it is heated, thus theoretically this should be the most reliable method. Any time blended the lye becomes a lot more turbulent and thus gets to all areas of the follicle.

The temperature means the tissue surrounding the dermal papilla becomes a lot more porous, the lye can then diffuse straight into it, making the procedure better. The blend of both the heat and chemical reaction usually means this particular therapy is actually much less uncomfortable than diathermy on it’s own, even though it normally takes a bit more time.

Electrolysis will result in permanent hair removal but it is time consuming, can be costly if numerous treatments are required and is only practical for unwanted hair in small areas. Home electrolysis kits are available but it really is best left to professionals.

Permanent Hair Removal: Laser

Laser therapy is fast becoming the preferred treatment for permanent hair removal and equipment prices are steadily falling and becoming affordable for home use. Laser hair removal works by utilising the characteristics of light when introduced into a fine channel in the same way fibre optics work.

Quick blasts of high intensity light are  sent down the hair into the follicle where it destroys the root. Although often presented as permanent hair removal it is somewhat less effective than electrolysis and it should be regarded as permanent hair reduction.

When used regularly hair growth will be retarded and will become much finer and for the majority of people it is a very good method of ‘almost’ permanent hair removal.

Permanent hair removal by laser does have a shortcoming when using a home device, most of these are not suitable for very light hair or dark skin. This is because the machine uses technology to determine where to send the laser pulses, this technology uses the contrast between the hair and the surrounding skin so if you have heavily pigmented skin or very light coloured hair this can result in the skin being targeted and becoming burnt.

When deciding on a treatment for permanent hair removal you need to weigh up the benefits of each system, the costs involved and the reasons why you would want it. The majority of people are looking to get rid of unwanted hair on the body or legs and home laser hair removal is a good option but if you are a woman with unwanted and unsightly hair on the face or neck then electrolysis might be the preferred option.

Hair Removal For Men

Hair Removal For Men

Hair Removal For MenHair removal for men is really just the same as it is for us girls, there are basically five choices.

1) Shaving; The good old fashioned razor with soap and water. Ooh! This is okay for the face and most men are used to the job of shaving. However if the hair to be removed is not confined to the face, lets say, on the back or around the pubic region then hair removal for men is better tackled in other ways.

The big drawback with shaving is that it cuts off the hair sideways, this leaves a blunt end which feels much rougher as it grows back and also the way light is channeled into the hair shaft makes it appear much darker and thicker. This is the cause of the old wives tale that shaving makes the hair thicker. It doesn’t.

2) Epilators: Women are recently discovering the epilator which in a lot of forms resembles an electric razor. The way it works differs from a razor in that it is not designed to cut the hair but rather, pull it out. We women have been doing this to our eyebrows for centuries but with an epilator you now have the opportunity to treat the whole body with some model even being suitable for the face area. Mens hair removal with an epilator is a good way to go because the hairs are not cut bluntly but tweezed from the root. When the hair grows back it is finer and because the tips are not blunt it feels softer, this ideal for areas normally covered by clothing as it won’t itch or scratch.

3) Waxing: Many men are now removing hair with the waxing method, this is a good method of male hair removal for areas like the chest and back, indeed many athletes even wax their legs but when it come to the intimate areas of male hair removal it can be quite painful. A beautician friend of mine who offers “Back, crack and sac waxes” has told me that sometimes the wax will actually remove the skin from the sac area.

4) IPL or as we generally call it, laser treatment is another alternative for male hair removal. This method uses a laser to shine very strong light down the shaft of the hair and burn out the hair root. With sustained use the hair growth is substantially reduced. Like epilating the hair that does grow back will be finer and softer. The problem with IPL is that it is only suitable for people with a strong colour contrast between the hair and the skin, dark hair and light skin.

5) Depilatory creams: Products such as Veet can be used for hair removal for men just the same as women. They work well, grow back is soft and finer and the effect is fairly long lasting, they are also comparatively cheap if you only use them infrequently. The drawbacks are, costs can mount if the man is particularly hairy and they do contain chemicals which can have an adverse effect on more sensitive skins.

So there are your choices, for my man epilation has worked a treat and the fact that it is pretty near painless, quick and convenient means that whipping the unwanted hair off is not such a chore. We both use the Braun epilator he bought me for my birthday! This is a fairly pricey piece of equipment but with the use it gets it was a good investment.

Shaving Pubic Hair

Dare To BareShaving Pubic Hair

Over the past decade or so shaving pubic hair has become part of the regular grooming routine of many men and women. Shaving pubic hairs can lead to a feeling of confidence and cleanliness and this possibly why it has become so popular.

The other benefits are, for women, the fashion of smaller and sexier underwear and skimpier bikinis can allow the  hairs to protrude which is unsightly and considered embarrassing, for men the big advantage is that a shaved pubic area will make their equipment look bigger.

Shaving pubic hair is perfectly safe and hygienic as long as you go about it in the right manner, for most people the worst that will happen is the shaved area will become irritated and very itchy.

Ways Of Shaving Pubic Hair

The area in which you are going to remove the pubic hairs must be clean, this is vital as any nicks or cuts could become infected. So the first thing to do is wash the area thoroughly, this is best done in the shower or bath. This will also soften the hairs and make them easier to remove.

Next you will need to trim the pubic hairs with a pair of scissors or preferably a bikini trimmer. These devices are easy to use and will safeguard against cuts and scratches. If you decide to use scissors you should pull the hairs away from your body and trim them as short as possible. Use caution and do not hurry this part, you do not want any accidents!

Shaving Pubic Hair With A Wet Shaver

You could leave your pubic hair short for a few days just to get used to the different feeling but many people who are shaving pubic hair just want to get the job done and move on.

Whenever you are shaving pubic hair you must always use a gel, cream or lubricant to help the shaver slide across the skin. There are many gels available in your local supermarket or pharmacy but it is probably better to choose one that is non-perfumed and contains an antiseptic element if possible.

Apply the gel or cream to the pubic area and ensure that you have a generous lather and begin shaving in the same direction that the hairs are growing. Slow smooth strokes without rushing are the safest way to go and avoid going over the same area more than twice. Once you are used to shaving pubic hair you will develop a technique so don’t worry too much the first few times. Shaving in the opposite direction may give you a closer shave but it can lead to in growing hairs so be careful.

Once you have finished shaving your pubic hair you should wash any remaining traces of the gel or cream from your skin otherwise you may experience some discomfort. As you do this you can use an exfoliant soap which will remove any dead skin cells and help guard against in growing hairs.

When you have completed this step, dry the area thoroughly and use a cream like Aloe Vera to give back some of the moisture that pubic hair shaving takes away. A mistake to avoid is to use any powders such as talcum which will further dry out the skin and make you sore.

If you wish to buy a pubic hair shaver look for one that is designed for the job, there are many on the market but I would say stay away from the cheap disposable types as the blade quality is somewhat poor and they can drag on the skin causing irritation. I am not going to make a recommendation for a wet shaver as I do not use them and the only time I did, it hurt and left me red as a beetroot.

Shaving Pubic Hair With A Dry Shaver

The procedure for using a dry, electric shaver is a little different. You will still need to wash the area thoroughly and then dry it completely. Using a powder can remove much of the oils around and on the hairs and this will allow the shaver to do a better job. It will be more comfortable if you use a double foil shaver as the foils keep the cutting blades away from you skin and so produce a smooth shave without the risk of small cuts. Whichever pubic hair shaver you use, always read the manufacturers instruction carefully. The pubic area is very sensitive and so it is wise to do the job properly.

When purchasing a pubic hair shaver, commonly referred to as a bikini shaver it is wise to buy a good one. Cheap shavers are usually unsatisfactory in quality, reliability and effectiveness. There are several brands on the market and most of them are featured on this site but the one I would recommend is the Braun Silk & Soft 5560

Shaving Pubic Hair

Alternatives To Shaving Pubic Hair.

Today there are are couple of alternative methods to actually shaving pubic hair. These are:

Epilators: These devices look just like a normal electric bikini shaver but work by a tweezing action. Most feature several sets, up to 40, of gripping blades which grasp the hairs and pull them out in a manner akin to tweezing your eyebrows. The motion is swift and effective and once you get used to it, fairly painless. The advantage of using an epilator is that hair growth is reduced and the regrowing hairs are finer and softer than with a shaver. Continued use of an epilator will result in a reduction of pubic hair over time. Read reviews of bikini epilators

IPL: This is a laser treatment which was once the preserve of beauty salons at very high cost but now several manufacturers are bringing out home laser hair removal machines which are very effective at removing pubic hair. Unfortunately due to the actual ways these machines work they are not suitable for light hair or dark pigmented skin. It is to do with the colour contrast between the hair shaft and the surrounding skin. You can read more about Home Laser Hair Removal
